Carlton flyer??

I have been sorting through some old photos and uncovered some pictures of my old track bike. I got rid of this over 20 years ago but always assumed that it was an old Raleigh frame.

Looking at the pictures now, especially the lugs I am not so sure now... what do you think?

Frame looks like a later non-Madison Flyer as the rear dropouts are angled and not rounded. Lugs and seatstays are typical of the flyer though.

Forks should have been twin-plate so likely off another frame. Wonder if the rear dropout has been drilled for a gear hanger?

Nice though :)

Yes, the forks were changed when I got it and had it re-sprayed. What is the 'non-Madison' reference?

The Flyer came in a "Madison" version which had very tight clearances for track use only, rear wheel almost touching the seat stay. Don't think the forks were drilled for a brake either.

Oops, forgot there was a BC version as well :)

Wow - thanks Shaun.

I might see if I can track the bike down... I sold it over 20 years ago to a distant relative. It's probably sat rusting in his garage still!

Best of luck :)

Just out of curiosity what's the other bike in the right hand corner of the first pic?

Shaun

Very nice, I see what you mean about those lugs...

That's my Mercian, which I still have and is one of the nominations for this months Readers Bike of the Month!
