Falcon / Merckx ID

I just picked this up. SN 55389, if that says anything. Not sure if it's a Kermesse 106 or earlier? 531 straight-gauge tubes w/unusual seatstay detail, long-ish lugs but no thinning, 120mm spacing w/campy dropouts, lugged flat-crown fork w/ovalised blades (& sloppy brazing). No rust (overspray still clean in the BB!), no dents, but a lot of badly touched up paint. Original decals in very good shape. '72-'73 I'm thinking? Oddly, it is not at all square (as was std at the time)...measures 52 ST x 56 TT, c-t-c.

Odder still, it is built w/high-end Japanese for the time...5s Dura-Ace (Crane RD), Super Champion rims w/Sunshine Pro-Am hubs (!), Brooks, Cinelli cockpit. All of it in really top-notch shape!

So, what have I here?

As your post says looks for all the world like a licence built Mercx by Falcon.............seems a bit odd to have been built with all that nice kit unless the previous owner was under the impression it was a *real* Mercx :)
