Currently on Eurostar whizzing through the countryside en-route to Le Gay Paree..... wondering if any of you know of some good vintage bike shops there at all please?

I don't know about mountain bike stuff but the Alex Singer shop in Levallois is on the list of places to visit next time I'm in Paris:

Not so much vintage as classy modern steel, but it apparently hasn't changed much over the years. The prices are impressive too...

I'm out of touch (and back in Blighty now) but Bicloune is a good shop. There's always plenty to look at in their blvd Beaumarchais branch:

The scene has been in flux over the last few years, with some well-established shops closing and a number of upstart boutiques springing up. You wont find much in the way of vintage mtb though. Road, touring, and urban bikes are much more popular.

Randocycles at the porte de Vincennes is a good touring shop with a few vintage bikes on display:

You'll see plenty of interesting bikes being ridden, or locked up and rusting around town. The French generally aren't nostalgic about their old bikes: they wear them out, then buy new ones.

Thanks for the heads up, have already noted several gorgeous but neglected pre-war bikes being ridden. Will scope out the links to see which are local-ish to the hotel :)

looking for a vintage bell believe it or not!
In that case, Bicloune isn't a bad bet. The blvd Beaumarchais shop is about half way between République and Bastille. The other branch (rue Froment) is close by, just across the canal St Martin.

There are also a few shops around that deal in second hand town bikes for the student/boho market that might well have a few old bells knocking about. Gepetto&Vélos of the bottom end of rue Mouffetard in the 5e is one:

Say hi to Annemarie from me if you drop in.

You might also give 18 Vélo Vintage a try:

They're on rue du Ruisseau in the 18e, up behind Montmartre.
