Specialized Rockhopper

I need to sell my bike. As I have ordered a new one! The centre tube within the cogs on the back wheel, has broken & I have no drive. I bought the bike new & apparently its a steel frame. Im not sure how old it is, but with luck somebody here will be able to tell me based on the photographs. Im sure it must be at least 10 years old, so therefore all the usual knocks & dings. As far as I know, its in standard spec, apart from the handlebar extension & bar ends How much is it worth? Thanks for any input, in advance.

You bought the bike new but have no idea how old it is? (!) Or how close it is to standard spec? How can someone with power tools and handyman kit (assuming it's your garage) be clueless about what kind of frame he purchased? You must have a magnet in that garage somewhere! Is this post a joke?

I have been trying to figure out when I bought it. Its at least 10 years ago, maybe 15-16, but cannot really remember.


Not been ridden off road. Has road tyres on it & been ridden to work every day. I think I have the original manuel/paperwork, but its at home & I am at work!

I want to sell it, but don't know how much it's worth!

A wise bloke once told me "something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it" and this is especially true for anything secondhand. Therefore what you or we think it's worth might not help much. If you put this on ebay you'll soon find out what it's worth - the concept of supply and demand will take it's course.
There are four older-geometry Rockhoppers (both steel and aluminium) on there right now with auction and buy-it-now prices between GBP30 and GBP155 but at the time of writing this there are no bids/sales on any of them:

Trying to sell a bike which cannot even be ridden will eliminate huge swathes of potential buyers because many people are not mechanically minded, don't want any hassle and just want to "buy-and-ride". Only nutcases like us lot on here spend more time tweaking bikes than riding them. My guess is that if you auction it in this condition it won't even reach GBP50. Try to fix it first if you can do so on the cheap, but don't throw much money at it, you won't see a return.
