Welcome in the Merlin owner club :D
Yours seems to be very old with the straight seatstays and chainstays(before 92). My favourite
..
Do you really want to use this cannondale 285 stem ? The good news for this, it was mad by nitto, like the ritchey :D
yes the stem is very nice, 130mm long and the rise fits me wonderfully but it's a bit heavy and not comparable with Salsa.
Of course it makes no sense with pace rc35 but I look for a rigid fork. ;)

A question to all Merlin experts,

I have a XT 730 27,2mm post and it just doesn't fit! I thought the seatpost size of Merlin is 27.2 mm? :?

Mine is, and from '93
I can't tuck in a 27.2mm, simply impossible
...and also have tried a 26.8 and it is too loose, it remains only 27mm and I have none :(

ok it is not quite 27.2 ....probably I have to use violence and that's not good!

my 98' XLM and '99 Mountain are both the seatpost 27.2mm,
and usually also the model of first '90s have that measure.
very strange yours....

I would not force it, titanium can tear. Better to try and mill .04 mm off of your post or acquire the 27mm post.
