As per the title I'm having problems fitting my 7 speed Hyperglide-C cassette. It has been installed correctly (I think) with the spacer between the 5th and 6th sprocket but even when the lockring is tightened there is lateral play in the cassette. The cassette body is definitely a 7 speed but I seem to vaguely remember there may be a difference in cassette bodies for Hyperglide-C. Anyone got any ideas?

See that spacer you used? Stick one on the freehub body first then stick the cassette back on.
Tried that, pushes it so far forward I can't get the lock ring to bite

My guess is that you're trying to fit a cassette with an 11 tooth smallest sprocket on a "non compact body", the one on the right in the photo below (earlier ones have a thread on the outside too).

Sheldon Brown will explain it better (about half way down the page) http://sheldonbrown.com/k7.html#hyperdrivec

I thought I remembered something along those lines. I'll have a look in the morning, cheers :D
