OK how do I tell if my front mech is a dual pull, its a 2000ish XT one (sorry for the terrible pic)
I assume that the cvable can come up over the black bit neat the clamp mounbt bolt then over to the retendion bolt... but I have never seen a dual pull one before, didn't actually realise the existed till I needed a bottom pull, only using top pulls for the last 20 years... and there are all these dual pull ones... so not sure if mine IS dual pull or not.

It does look like dual pull though, yes. And as you describe, up n over for down pull routing or in directly from above for top pull.
