Surly krampus

Haha, yeah deposits with Charlie were £600

Bikes are £1700 when they finally get released....and frame/fork/rim/tire kit are £1100

picked the krampus up today....very happy with the build by dave at law cycles, good match of parts and more importantly im happy with the fitment.

despite the lack of a test ride im glad i stuck to my thoughts and got the medium.

18 mile shakedown in north berwick, great company and 11c and the sun shined all day!

i did manage a puncture at the end of the ride....only realised as we washed bikes down.....patch and stans in tubes now, so that should be ok from now on!

lots of pictures as usual.......

first thoughts are....its fast!

like people have mentioned, you pull away slow then the thing just flies along.....very impressed.

for a large wheeled bike it can be thrown around and the grip is superb, never slipped all day, the torque just pulls you along, mud clearance wasnt an issue even on the wet parts of farming tracks.

90% off road today and on hard packed tracks, the bike eats the smaller bumps to the point where you in a very comfortable place!

i didnt mess with pressures, 18psi in front and 20psi in rear.

i imagine 15-18psi will be awesome for rocky decents etc.

anyway....more pics.

so

You have a fargo at one end, the moonie at the other and the krampus in the middle? will the moonie be relegated to occasional trips?

That was the plan, Fargo for solo rides after work and nice days......krampus for group rides and fun days......moony for beach days and fatbike meets.

I am a pondering on these krampus's

standard 26 inch wheels due to my rugby size has always seen the tyres quite flat even at the highest psi. I have not long ago owned a 29er and found them a real easy ride. Since getting the moony I rarely go fast but damm I smile a lot..so I am wondering if the moonie should be sold on and get the krampus as a devil plays all cards type of bike?

Well I have both and could live with both!

Obviously the krampus would be the better all rounder seeing as I don't live on the beach but both have there benefits, krampus being faster and nimble meaning you could ride all day and be fine.

Another 18 miles today but on cycle ways around town, so only adjustment was upping the seat post an inch.

Been picking Si's new frame kit up today so popped into Dalby forest on the krampus and Si took his Fargo around....stunning day once we got there.

Couldn't really test the bike as I have been shattered after riding almost 90 miles in 4 days....but still had fun chucking it about and enjoying the bike as much as possible.
