Carbon Fibre.... Inspiration required.... UPDATE 18/04/13

Re: Carbon Fibre.... Inspiration required.

Day 6.....

The experienced lads have all gone back to work, so I'm getting a personal 1-1 tuition

So today I've picked a module to complete, so job 1 is a CF toolbox, job 2 is a hybrid coaster with carbon and carbon/Kevlar... Job 3 is a CF brake duct from an F1 car and final job is an air duct from a WRC car..

Then I'm allowed to work on whatever parts I want, so making a load of CF frame protectors for my on-one c456, a bash ring for granny ring and outer ring, and hopefully a heat shield for an induction kit for my car...

Pics to follow, but as I've not really had a sensible reply for ages I guess nobody really gives a stuff...

Re: Carbon Fibre.... Inspiration required.

i do need the carbon seat ,,mines hideous...oh pleeeease...

Re: Carbon Fibre.... Inspiration required.

I would need to fabricate a mould, and alas I have not nearly enough time for that... :(

Re: Carbon Fibre.... Inspiration required.

Day 7....

Making a CF toolbox, cured it today, broke it out the mould and tomorrow I'll be making the lid, sandwiching some nomex inbetween 2 CF laminates.

Also today I have also finished laying up the brake duct and air duct, ready for autoclaving in the morning..

During a quiet moment I managed to fabricate some frame protection for my OnOne carbon456

I purposefully laid one at 90deg and one at 45..

Made in two halves, with overlap. To be trimmed and glued tomorrow.

Also finished the bottom half of my toolbox, just requires a polish up.

Which is a two part epoxy used by F1 teams to bond all their chassis' together...

Perfect stuff for bonding retro carbon frames (like an Alan) back together...

Final day tomorrow, and I don't want it to end :(

Re: Carbon Fibre.... Inspiration required.

I use 9323 at work virtually every day. Awesome stuff when used correctly.

Effectionatly known in westlands as 'pink sh1t'

Re: Carbon Fibre.... Inspiration required.

The dark orangey red hardener blows your bloody head off, with ammonia fumes...

We added black pigment to make it match the carbon colour.

Re: Carbon Fibre.... Inspiration required.

Yea we've done similar things for home jobs. In industry it's left pink though.

Its also used to hold the leading edge on to helicopter rotor blades so pretty sturdy stuff... Well unless it gets hot (its weakness) we use some hysol glue for higher temp work.
