xtr m952 weird discolouration

At first glance id say the finish is stripped off :? as to the logo,is it laser etched,because they could have carefully worked around that.
Does it look like someone has had a go at polishing it ? try yourself with a little brasso or autosol[if you have either] ,pick an area thats discoloured but out of the way and see itf it polishes up :? if it was previously polished then youll get there really quickly and it will be obvious :?
