Withernsea to Spurn Point - Aftermath

Well what a day, I suspected we may have a poor turnout for this partly due to the time of year and partly due to the high mileage and on the day only myself, Fluffychicken and Trebz made it.
After the usual faffing about we got on the bikes and set off, stopping after a couple of hundred yards at the first cafe for breakfast

Full of sausage and egg butties we set off on the long tarmac section through sleepy holderness villages until we reached Kilnsea and the start of Spurn Point itself, the road out onto the point is quite spectacular with views over the Humber estuary to one side and the North sea to the other. Calling it a road is an exaggeration to be fair, its cobbles covered in sand and very uncomfortable on a fully rigid bike.

The road eventually ends at the old lifeboat crews village and it becomes a trek through massive sand dunes covered in gorse, shouldering the bike is really the only option here but the odd near vertical downhill provides some entertainment, especially for myself and Ben as Trebz decided to do a perfect slow motion over the bars dismount in front of the only group of people within miles!

Fortified once again with cake and tea, and after Trebz 100th visit to the loo we set off in time trial mode back to Withernsea and covered the 15 or so miles back very quickly indeed, a last food stop at an excellent chippy saw us sheltering from the bitter wind behind the sea wall and another fantastic Retrobike ride was over.

Pics will follow when Trebz and Fluffychicken wake up.

Try and make it next time if you can, no big hills, nothing technical but I guarantee you will all enjoy it!

See you all soon,

Chris.

Here's my pictures, not much in the way of a narrative from me as I just got out of bed, I'll post something later if I can :)

Well, if nothing else we got some great pictures heheheh (Well Done Ben)

All in all though, yet another fun and interesting ride with the usual spills, breakages and general good banter to be had.

Roll on the next one I say.
