Re: Carbon Fibre.... Inspiration required.
cup would need a resin you can drink from?
Only non bike bit I ever made that I can think of is a small
dustpan for the swarf tray on the lathe, it was really neat
and someone nicked it. Oh I did make a paper knife but that
was chopped out of the scrap from an edge.
Compound curves aren't difficult, but you can't make them
to tight, twill is easiest on curves.
Here's my first mold and a guard pulled from it, multi part molds
are often best and if you don't have lot's of draft it can be difficult
to get parts out of a mold. The mold is three piece, the seams are
where the original guard had lines molded in so any marks didn't matter,
this comes out of the mold relatively easy.
A pic of a headlamp shell, it's copy of some old jap headlight shell,
I made them for a quite a few bikes I built for people. This one is
two pieces of plain weave but it was possible to do it in one piece of twill fabric.
The mold is one piece and cos of the bit at the back with virtually no draft it's
pretty difficult to get the parts out of the mold.
Someone mentioned carb trumpets, I did make some for a commando, no pics of
them. I have pics of the filter inlets I made for a ZXR, they were needed as the
frame and tank meant he couldn't have an air box. I carved them out of styrofoam,
molded over it and then melted the foam out with thinners.
