DIY Almarc-like leather handlebar cover

I'm looking for a pair of 700c x 23 amber wall tyres, they seem to be hard to find these days!
There are some clinchers, usually quite expensive and have mixed reviews about durability. There are always cheap tubulars around.

hmmm... here's quite good offer: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/TYC ... bular_tyre
these slightly narrower: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/TYV ... lding_tyre
or these: http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/TYV ... ncher_tyre (these out of stock currently)

The cables were already fitted when I bought my Crowther but I've seen similar cables on Ebay. It not always easy to tell from the photo's but It looks like Campagnolo do a transparent red cable set, if you're feeling flush :D
I thought so. Anyway GB rebuild is not priority atm anyway, so will wait until spring/summer.

Thanks for the links, its clinchers I'm looking for. I like the look of the Vittoria Open Corsa's, I will have to plan how I can get £80 worth of tyres past the wife :D

Inspiring stuff! I'll be giving that a go...well when I say "I" I actually mean I know a man that should be a dab hand at that. Robbie I need some white strips of leather have you got a link to your seller?

Hi Tel

I used this one: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 7617375484

Just be careful about the length you need on my Cinelli bars I was just 5mm over! You maybe able to ask them to cut it slightly longer.

There's also this which looks quite good: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/130832463508? ... 1423.l2649

That is a true work of art.

Will look fantastic on my next build.......... unless I cock it up!

Superb stuff. I have to try this.
Getting a big enough piece of leather seems hard as most sellers on the bay are selling 20cm x 20cm pieces.
Anyone got any idea as to where a bigger piece might be bought?

Again, most excellent work :)

Re: leather sew on bars

Thanks for the good information. My project below. I chose to double the thread as done in a true baseball stitch. Worked well for synching up the leather without tearing it. 1.2mm leather. Took 400cm of thread per side. Project was complicated by the brake cables under the leather. I chose to have the cable exit the wrap thru the sewn seem only just under the brake hood and just before the cable housing enters the brake body under the hood. Only a couple mm to work with there. The leather I used was soft "upolstery" leather so did not need to be wetted. I also have some padding under the leather over top of the bars; used a strip of the old cork/synthetic bar wrap as padding.
