Retro Newbie
Just wanted to share my newly built Kona Kaboom with you.
Always wanted one when they were new but couldnt afford one :|
Repainted, new decals (thanks Gil) and a few choice parts. Worth waiting 13 years for :D

A few more pictures and a word or two.
As mentioned before, i had been looking for one of these for a while. A nice tidy green one came up on ebay ( pics of this one later ) so i bought that one and was very happy with it. Unfortunatly my OCD decided to keep reminding me that it was a gold one that i had seen years ago and lusted after.

Not long afterwards an advert for this came up on Singletrack.

I had planned on bolting it together with a few bits from the spares box and using it for a pub bike, but when i took the frame out of the box i decided that i should really try to tidy it up a bit.

I thought that there would be no point in getting the frame painted if i couldnt get any replacement decals for it so the first stop was to email Gil. Fortunatley he agreed to drawing a set of the decals for me even though hes unlikly to be asked for another set!

Whilst these were being done i gave the frame, and a spare pair of P2 forks, to a friend who works at a boatbuilders where his friendly painter matched the original colour and gave it a few coats. When i got the frame back i carefuly applied the new decals.

Then it went back to the painter to have a coat of clearcoat over the top. I had left the head tube decal off so that the painter could rub down a run and left it for him to apply. Unfortunatly he stuck it towards the top of the head tube rather than the middle. Apart from that he did a great job and for what he charged me i am very pleased with the results.

Built up mainly with bits i had anyway but when a pair of ss chris king wheels came up on ebay i knew they would be the perfect finishing touch.

Anyway, there you have it. Not very exotic, not handbuilt from fancy steel but not too common and after all you cant beat an old Kona

Wow.
Check that spec hidden in one tiny photo at the top of the thread!

I have to admit having never heard of a Kona Kaboom before, but I'm liking that a lot. Very sweet build.

Re:

Just picked up a kaboom and will need decals for it. Who is this Gil guy you speak of and how can I contact him?
