My neighbours son

Would be cooler if the "spare wheel" actually drove the rear wheel tyre to tyre style & subsequently went backwards whilst pedalling forwards. :D

Well almost - I have spotted the deliberate ploy of fitting the cranks on the opposite side so the thing presumably is fixed gear & travels forward

According to the article you still have to peddle backwards to go forwards. :D

Ah yes so you would, brain freeze switched off, bike fitted with freewheel so you can pedal backwards to go forwards?

*I haven't actually read the article yet*

The opposite side crank makes no difference he'll still have to pedal backwards to go forward if its a fixie. If its a freewheel and he pedals forward nothing will happen as the freewheel would be rotating backwards and thus not engaging its pawls so again he must pedal backward to go forward.

Either way I would definitely fall off before the wheel had managed one rotation
