My Wife and I met an outspoken 50ish y/o German in NZ a few days into the New Year , he said he thought England should have been forced to join the Euro currency , my English born wife lived for 25 years(and proud of it) in Carslile said after to me she wanted to say "Germany has tried that before and how did that that go for you ? " but knew it would kill any conversation dead ha ha
