1970's MKM restoration - nearly finished :)

Some pictures of the frame and forks almost stripped showing the chrome.

I have now come across another frame number!

The forks have 1260 and the frame is 3709 and makes the frame 1976 and the forks from 1974.

Have the forks been changed or did it leave the factory with none matching numbers?

Re: 1970's MKM restoration project- READY FOR RESPRAY

Picked up the mkm and the decals arrived today, so been busy.
Back to paintshop tomorrow for final clear coat. It is in a satin finish at the moment to allow the decals to stick, it will be a deep gloss after the clear coat. Will have it back on Monday, can't wait.posting.php?mode=reply&f=12&t=239450#

Very nice job Ian,

you ought to bring it on the Lincolnshire Lightweight Section season opener in March (starts from Bardney Heritage Centre).

Roadking.

Re: 1970's MKM restoration - now resprayed c/w decals :)

Nice Job!!

How did you fair out painting over the chrome forks? I painted over mine on my Merckx recently and the spray shop said he would use an etch primer to try and give it something to bite to. However I havent finished building it yet and already I have a chip on the painted over chrome section...

Re: 1970's MKM restoration - now resprayed c/w decals :)

AFAIK you can't etch prime chrome (you can aluminium and it's alloys), you have to seriously roughen it to form a mechanical key...
