highlandsflyer Retro Wizard Feedback View Jan 20, 2013 #2 Have you inspected it? If you have the bottom bracket out take a look up the chain stays. There is always some rust, if no one has sorted it. Don't panic. Pour or spray in lots of rust killer. Drain then dry in a hot dry place. Spray in something to coat the interior. I use motorcycle chain wax.

highlandsflyer Retro Wizard Feedback View Jan 20, 2013 #4 The chain and seat stays tend to be made of more basic metal. If they are in decent shape it augers well. My 2004 Jamis Dragon had thick rust inside these areas. Actually still has, I am going to sort it after winter is done. Rust is one of the best surface sealers there is. As long as it is not agitated it does not progress quickly.
