When putting fresh cut flowers into a vase, it's always good practice to cut the bottom of the stems. I tend to cut them on an angle so the flowers can draw more water.
Tulips are very seem to be very good quality at the moment..... Although you must keep an eye on the water level as they are very thirsty flowers.
