Not sure how much information I shared without reading back over it all but just to clarify/ reiterate this is going to be a part-time shop whilst I continue my continuous night shift factory job *big sigh*
I'll elaborate a little more but when I'm on a definite path, I'll start a new thread in a current project type fashion.
The potential property is a shed style commercial unit, no shop front. It is located amongst a small development consisting of a fish mongers (could get smelly!) and what is essentially a junk shop/ antique shop. I have the option on what size the unit will be as the landlord (junk shop owner) will partition it accordingly. Profits from Stallion Cycles last year was a little meagre and due to hardly trading at all of late due to moving home I have very little money in the business. With this in mind and due to things being very unknown I'll er on the side of caution and keep lease costs down, this equals a small shop!
Because of this I'll be marketing myself more as a Cycle Spares, Repair and Servicing shop. I'll have a selection of spare parts on offer which will be consumable parts (tyres, chains, cables, etc) and used spare parts. I can build upon that as and when things develop as someone wisely said I need to build my stock around my communities requirements.
The local community does mainly consist of BSO's, there is quite a few BMX's too (which I have hardly ever worked on but they have to be the simplest of them all right!?) there's a BMX park just round the corner. There is also die hard cyclists with very expensive bikes (road and mtb). So quite a broad spectrum really.
There's a few holes in my mechanic skills but I will quickly fill these. I worked in a bike shop albeit many years ago. I'm a quiet'ish (reserved) person but easy to get on with and talk to. Business experience is just what I have learnt through running SC. This venture could be a harsh learning curve....
Of course I have many concerns; will I be able to earn enough from the shop being the main one. All I can do is try my best, I feel very ill prepared and feel like I'm just winging it, although I have plenty of support including quite a bit on here!
Of course you're all welcome to visit once I'm established although probably best in small numbers
