1992 Rocky Mountain Vertex (steel) Build

Yeah, for me it was either keep the rigid fork and obtain something like a Ritchey stem, or some other slim steel stem (with some sort of cable hanger / stop), or keep the Syncros stem and fit a suspension fork to match the size of the stem. To me, the Syncros stem and separate hanger looked massive compared to the rest of the bike with the rigid fork fitted.

There is method to my madness ;)

Sorry guys, but I am continuing to ruin this bike

Although in all seriousness it feels a million times better than before and am looking forwards to taking it for a lap on the Shore or Squamish soon as I've definitely built this as a rider. It might not be a conventional build, but it's a bit of a throwback to a mid-nineties North Shore bike, which seemed apt, as that's where it's going to be ridden (and has been). It probably looks heavier than it is, as it comes in at just over 26lb.

Don't be tooooo hard on me

For comparison... here's my 1992 Steel Vertex... 99.9% done... (just missing all the rocky and syncros decals... have them all but haven't had a chance to put them on just yet...) It's supposed to have an XT group... but what the hell... why not M900? =)

That's a classy build Shutter. Mine started in a similar way but never got ridden because I hated it *** One day I was thinking about my old bikes, and the fact that my 1999 Kona Pahoehoe was probably the most fun bike that I have owned for just ripping down singletrack and getting air off pretty well anything. I then had a 'eureka' moment when I realized that I could build up the Vertex in a similar manner if I could find suitable parts.... so I did. The Kona also happened to be a throwback bike itself, with M900 cranks, Slightly new XTR rear derailleur, Syncros post, Flite, Ti-Glide hubs, ceramic rims etc:

***By hated it, I mean the way it rode. I concede that it looked better before :)

 effectively terrible or terribly effective?

remember me something like that

Thanks. Damage Control who made the bash ring were, as far as I can tell, a Vancouver company from way back when, hence it's inclusion, and keeping with the rough BC theme. I almost bought some crappy $10 V8 copies from work but I just couldn't do it!
