Heres some pics of the Walvale I got off quirky advertised on here. Ive been Looking for a suitable walvale for a good while now, made up I finally found one.

Plans are to eventually have it re-finished at C&G Liverpool, who painted the frame originally in 1986. Also, and im caught in two minds on what to do, is to either complete the bike with full dura ace equipment to complement the gears and chainset. Or to have a mixture of dura ace / 600. Really unsure.....

Anyway heres the pictures, let me know what you think;

Stripped the bike down today, going to sell the 600 brakes, and not sure what to do with dura ace ax crankset.... Should I sell and get a standard dura ace crankset or just keep the ax? Frame is showing some signs of rust, im going to take it to C&G in the week and get them to give me a price on the refinishing.

It has nice chromed shimano dropouts and the fork steerer carries the same serial number as the frame, so its definitely a Walvale.

One interesting point is that it looks as though the chainstay reinforcement (don't know if thats the correct term) looks to have been removed or cut off at some point?? You can see in the pictures the two bare spots on each chainstay where it looks to have been in the past?

Going to start cleaning up all the dura ace parts, cinelli stem and handlebars this week, get them all nice and polished up!

Can anybody recommend somewhere for replacement / reproduction decals?

Thanks, Sean.

Certainly a nice looking frame.

frames built with Cinelli bb shells (at least the aero models and it appears yours) was not built with stay strengtheners. The two spots you refer to appear to be where the wheel has slipped in the dropouts and rubbed the paint away. I could be wrong of course, especially as I cannot see the frame clearly....

Try H Lloyd for decals.

Would personally sell the AX chainset and go complete DA 7400+

Unusual for a frame of this age not to have gear lever braze ons. I wonder if the original owner used bar end shifters with a band on cable guide as I don't think braze on guides were available then.

I was wondering about why there was no braze on gear bosses. The Dura Ace levers are currently attached to a band on.

That does explain the two spots then, as from touch they are very smooth. Ill have a look on H Lloyd. Thanks Tel.

Any ideas on how much the DA AX Chainset is worth?
Anyone want to swap?

Can I se a little brazed on triangle under the area where the downtube shifters are?

Shaun

Lovely bike :)

When it gets refinished make sure they use the right downtube decal! That one is slightly annoying

I know, must have just been what they had at the time. Made me wonder if it was a stickered up fake at first, but its not.
