Picked up this frame off Gumtree a couple of days ago for £40.

Was looking for a winter project and this should fit the bill nicely - a 2000 Stumpy M2 in the 'Gloss Black/Red' colourway.

Not sure if it's a size 18 or 19" frame as unsure of how Specialized measure their frames but its 19" C-T and 18" C-C. Top tube measures 23" so either way, it's a bob-on fit for me....

Condition is not particularly great - loads of scrapes, scratches and wear and tear to the decals but there are not dints or dings so nothing too much to worry about, really.

Initially I thought about powder coating but, after a good going over with T Cut/TurtleWax/Autoglym and touching-up bits here 'n there, I reckon I can live with it (just!) :D

Going to SS it too keep the budget down and also to see if SS is for me! Will pick up parts as I go along but have already decided on a rough idea of spec in my head.

Any opinions/advice from the spesh experts, especially regarding fork choice, would be great!

2000 is positively futuristic for me where bikes are concerned...
 :D

Cheers,

Matty :D

Great choice for a singlespeed. If you can't hack one gear on an M2 I doubt you will on any other frame.

It's criminal that they can be had so cheap, but all the better for you I guess. ;)

As for fork choice I got these P2 Jump forks for mine which i think look OK. Normal P2s were too skinny.

You can see my build here.

Just read through your thread - very nice, hope mine will come out as nice

Can't believe how light the frame is, it's a featherweight!

Will opt for a sus fork, however - just unsure of which one to go for really...

SS ratio will be 39/15 - thanks to following jim's SS DynaTech build closely!

Apart from that, a (very) rough build spec will be something like:

- ? Fork
- ? Cranks
- XT M770 V brakes
- Syncros/Ritchey seatpost
- Charge Spoon
- Charge Splashbacks
- Hope clamp and QR's
- Mavic XM317 black rims on XT hubs
- Ritchey/FSA headset
- Specialized stem (already got, came with the frame)
- ?Easton EA50/EA70 handlebar
- ODI lock-on or Oury grips
- ?UN55 BB (dependant on cranks of course)
- Gusset Bachelor chain tensioner
- Onza SS coversion kit
- Taya/Shimano chain

Having said that, all the above will probably change completely..... :D

Still hunting for a suitable fork, maybe even Pace RC36... :D

A mini-update of sorts as a couple of bits 'n pieces have turned up this week.

Build is on a bit of a budget (hence some distinctly non-NOS esque items...  ) and will reserve the cash for wheels and a fork.

First pick-ups were a seat clamp, saddle and seatpost. Went for a red Hope 34.9mm clamp off eBay, a Giant 'Contact' seatpost (again, off eBay) and a WTB Silverado Race saddle off "d00m" on here :D

Seatpost might seem a strange choice but it ticked all the boxes - and was only £8.99!

Some SS equipment, including a SRAM PC 1 chain and a Gusset 'Bachelor' chain tensioner:

The frame included the original Specialized alloy stem which I decided to keep and also picked up a scuffed but fully functional Easton EA50 bar for a fiver...

Tyres are Charge Splashbacks:

And I also ordered a Cane Creek 40 headset from Merlin Cycles earlier today:

Next on the hit list are a set of nice forks and cranks

Gave them a little clean up then the front end could be set up:

Will get the wheels next as I'll be happier when I can see it as a rolling chassis - grrrrr, why does Xmas have to be just round the corner?!
 Might have to wait until January now methinks......

Then will sort some brakes out and leave the cranks/BB till last, but I have decided to go for the more 'traditional' 32:16 ratio after ploughing through all the SS threads :D

Cheers,

Matty :D

Very nice!! But you need to get a Ritchey seatpost!!

Yes, I suppose.....! I do have a Ritchey post to fit but its silver sadly - black looks better, might even cover up the Giant logo....?

:D

EDIT: 22/12/12

Got some V-brake levers today, Shimano Deore M590 from Merlin's eBay store: will be using XT brakes but from reading around, there's not much difference in the actual levers themselves (or so I gather...!) so not bad for £19.95.
