With a bit of luck i might start my build of my Raleigh Rapide tomorrow. Any hints or tips about rebuilding would be appreciated.

Is there an order that components should be fitted in?

Lubrication of which or all bits?

And anything else that springs to mind.

This is wholly dependent of my wife and daughter recovering from theit illnesses - that is usually my luck!!!

The build thread is here - http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=228672
with numerous pics and more to be added.

Thanks everyone, i expect a lot of RBer's will be glad to see the finish of this build!!!!

Labels on tyres line up with innertube valves.
Grease all metal to metal contact, seatpost, stem, bolts, everything.
Use cable end crimps.

Make sure bar tape wraps the same way on both sides. Wrap PVC tape twice only to finish off, make sure it looks like it has only been wrapped once.

Bars and saddle are horizontal to the ground. Saddle is higher than bars.

Q/R on wheels are on non drive side and follow the line of the stays/ forks.

Logo's on hubs/ writing on wheels face the same way front and rear.

Can't think of anything else at the mo...

Just to add to Tels list....

Good quality Velox rim tape and not those plastic crap which can move and causing a blow out at the nipple.

Ensure tyre tread direction is correct[thats if they have any tread]

Brake blocks fit true and level to the rims.

Obvious but don't forget to oil the inner and outer cables, for smooth cable operation.

Outer cable ferrules fitted on brake cables[if needed]

Thanks, oil cables was one I would have missed. Current tyres are black with no logos so easy to fit. I might try the old tyres but I think they may have perished.
Any opinion on wrapping tube behind front mech?

Now I just need peace to "git 'er done!"

Thanks Tel and Ian.

Any other titbits or 2p's worth?

LOL to protect frame from damage where the band goes on!

Also - any tyre suggestions??

Oh I see what you mean now  Never had to do anything like that but I can imagine the tape getting all crunched up when the mech' is tightened up.

I am guessing that is a 'no' then, The frame is slightly dented here from the band being over tightened (not by me!).

Tyre opinion?
