New member, needing advice and help. Need a first project!

I'm sure one of the more knowledgeable members will be along soon, but I think that, with patience, you can get better for your money.

Scott and GT are both very reputable. The GT would retail at about £300 new. Not sure about the Scott I'm afraid.

From your selections, I'm guessing that you want a fairly modern looking aluminium hardtail, with a budget of £100 or so?

If you look through retailer's websites, Bikepedia, and the catalogues on Retrobike, you will sort of see the hierarchy for a given manufacturer. A quick poke around on Gumtree shows that you could get something a level or two higher - say originally £500+. None of these links are in Suffolk I'm afraid, and may not fit your height, but they do give you an idea of what is out there ........

What's your budget... What's your era of riding ?
What's you bike mechanical skills ?

What bikes on here do you like the look of (link to the posts)

As a long forked dowhill bike certainly does give me a good 'look', but I'm from an era in the early 90's like most of us here (retrobike ;)) and I certainly wouldn't want to be impressing anyone on my bikes just to go to work.
And £100 probably wouldn't get you a lot of suspension quality are decent finish for the later bikes.

Does this sort of bike appeal ?

Well for a first project I'm not looking at going mad with a high budget. Around 100 quid max I'd say, for now!

Used to BMX as a kid, and Mountain biking off and on since the 90s with a big gap from 2000, so out of touch really!

Have realised, thanks to the advice on here, a hardtail is prob my best option. I can do a DH another time!

So many great bikes on the forum..I'd just like to start with a half decent frame, as if I'm going to add/replace parts, I'll get the best I can afford, so don't want to be putting good stuff on a poor frame..

Do like the fatter frames..Any recommendations?

PS..Trawling ebay!
