White handle bar tape gets dirty - quickly

I made the mistake of applying some to my 1970's Dawes. I immediately removed it due to how grubby it got (probably due to fact I fix bikes for a living). If you have clean hands a lot of the time, go for it, If not, don't waste your time :)

The ambrosio stuff is plastic so a quick sponge with a bit of bathroom cleaner is fine, but cork or cloth is impossible to keep clean unless it's a show bike.

Bikenut......

The trick with old style cloth tape is pulling very hard ! It has almost no "give" and you have to force it to go round the levers or it wrinkles on the inner surface ...

and starting at the ends of the bars and ending at the tops..

Ah thanks! I ended up doing it in two passes, one from the tops to the hoods, and one from the bottom to the hoods, cutting the tape in half first. I also add ed some sticky at each end. Does have a lovely feel tho, I see why people choose it in preference ;)
