But just had to call a customer and tell them their son's bike (bought as a parts bin special from another bike shop) was a death trap.....

Chain not shortened out of the box so too long.
Touring rim with 700X20 tyre 4mm narrower than the rim,
Gear cables not fitted correctly.
Play in rear axle.
Spokes out of tension.
Aero seatpost inserted below aero profile and seatbolt overtightened accordingly.
They'd have been better off buying a BSO - this looks like it was built by a work experience kid who was just left to do his best.
No wonder some people are losing faith in LBSs.... Been doing this for over 20 years and this is the worst POS I've seen to date that was sold by a shop.
