Hi all

Looking for pointers .. Current plan is black saddle/white perforated bar tape/gum hoods ..

What was the 80's trend if there was one :)

Ideas/thoughts welcome

Col :)

Think you pretty much nailed it - except bar tape which IMHO shouldn't be perforated.

I know what you mean :( Just the perforated tape looks whiter/fresher longer :)

Sorry to interject but the only bar tape colour that goes with gum hoods is white........... replaced frequently :)

White ( becoming grey the next ride ) bar tape, brown gum hoods and black saddle sounds excellent. It could only be bettered with white, mesh backed, fingerless gloves.

In the early '80's we used lots of shiny Benotto plastic tape. Before bikeribbon existed perhaps. Anyway bright colours were the thing.

Black, black and black ... it's the rules of cycling.

Tyres, saddle and bar tape, all black.

Rule #8

And completely wrong

1970s to 1985: black saddle, white tape, and brown rubber hoods which matches the amberwall black tread tyres. What's "gum", I though it's a sort of glue?

The trouble with white tape is its grubby after a couple of rides, same with amberwalls. All very well on a show bike that is never ridden.
