Yet another Roberts D.O.G.S... of a rebuild

It's much harder to do a Brit build than is was in the 1990's, as although USE, Middleburn and Hope are still about, there is so little choice of parts or they are very expensive (or both).

I need to decide what BB to use; Royce would be nice, but is a bit OTT. I also need to get some black Hope skewers, then the last thing will be tyres, which may end up being my favourite Panaracer Smoke / Dart combo, but new, not 20 year old display items.

As for future paint, I think Argos will get my business, especially as they are on my doorstep.

Speaking of argos

Given how many use it and a tidy some goes to them..have we negotiated a rb discount?

A Royce Bottom Bracket is the Perfect choice IMHO.

Argos took 7 months to finish the last one they did for me, but as with all good painters, the wait can be a long one. Order books are full waiting lists are long especially if they specialise in bicycle frame repairs and refinishes.

Looking forward to the outcome Neil.

WOW! I thought Argos turned frames around in weeks, rather than months.

Hmmm 7 months?!!

Was it a complex paint scheme or Just that they are very busy due to being very good?

Quality Painters will always have a waiting list (so to speak), and they are exceptional, it was delicate and detailed, and a frame and fork, and additional fork chrome and stem.

It was Enameled in four colours and chrome work. and when the day came to collect it, the work and the finish astounded me.
And to add to that.... after over a year and some pretty good trail rides, the paint is standing up to the abuse with excellent results.

Worth the wait and worth the money...!!! how much is an original Picasso worth...?

Second reply to the same question: Busy.

I had the top tube of the frame replaced, and then the paint scheme should be standard Roberts; one colour for the main part of the frame, with black chain and seat stays.

It's Friday today and I've not heard from them, so I won't be seeing it back this week!

7 months just seems like awful service to me.

It's almost as if the long delivery times are engineered to perpetuate the myth of greatness. If I took a frame to be resprayed and was told I'd be waiting that long I'd piss myself and turn on my heels.

What's even worse is how they don't even advise you of anticipated time, and simply keep you hanging - leaving you to chase them for info all the time!

Why do people continue to use them - it's ridiculous!

To put things into context somewhat, whole houses are built and finished in less time than that - and I'm not referring to mass built shitty noddy boxes either!

I can't understand how people find this standard of service acceptable and continue to give such companies their business...

If its Colour-Tech doing it then I've been waiting since may for a Roberts frame too.

I spoke to the guy about month ago and he said it would be ready the next week. I have sent numerous emails and had no response...

I've sort of given up hassling them as it makes no difference!

That standard of service is simply astonishingly bad.

In fact, I struggle even to call it service.

I can't think immediately of any sphere of work / service delivery where such incompetence would not be very reasonable grounds for complaint and some form of compensation.

The fact that members here provide them with a not inconsiderable amount of work makes it all the more galling.

Pretty shocked, regardless of how fine the finished quality may be.

BB.
