The headset and stem

And here, the cassette and rear mech.

After some thought and research, I reckon all i'd want to change would be the stem, bars, seat post and saddle, and possibly the shifters (to the XTR M900)

I'm a bit confused as to what type of stem I can fix to the bike - would I need any particular style or dimensions?

And if I were to ever change the forks, what particular type sort of forks could I change to (leaving the same headset I have) ?

ibbz, if you're interested I've an unused Dynatech Ti handlebar I could sell, - it's off an MT4 and is the same champagne colour as the main tubes.

Good plan, don't get obsessed with weight, it a dark path!
Mavic 231 rims weigh around 408g so pretty good.
The Mavic headsets are quite sought after on here. The stem looks to be a 1 1/8" quill but you need to measure it to make sure.
I happen to have the Raleigh UGLI forks that were probably on it originally.
If you want to tighten / loosen the headset there is a grub screw to undo under the rubber band first.

True say, I've come to my senses!
Basics I think - as the other stuff is Fine, I'll leave the thumbies and everything else bar a few bits and bobs.
I've bought a new Titanium bar, a Syncros cattle prod stem, and a pair of eggbeater pedals.

All I need now is a a seta post and saddle.

Eventually I'll replace the V brakes and levers for XTR ones from the mid 90ies - that's about it!

I'd go for a USE post and a Flite Ti saddle.
