And someone placed a bid of € 200,= so I would be carefull...

You know that on Marktplaats a highest bidder isn't obligated to buy. Many act like that.

I need some more powertools to realign the rearframe.

Steel rulez

an update...
...so i've been working again on the frame and found out this is not going to work...problem is that the rearwheel is completely out offset. In other words, if I look at the seattube and at the rearwheel there's a difference of almost 3 cm. I took the frame to my work and tried to strech it out on the aleign platform but it s not going to happen. Even if I get it straight it won''t be strong enough to use as a mountainbike. So end of project so far...

This was last week.
Than I run into an advertisement on a Dutch marketplace saying: for sale a very good conditioned Nishiki Ariel!
So I checked out the ad and it was the same bike!
Not al the parts are the same so I have to replace almost everything but the frame and fork are spot on :!:

I made the seller an offer he could't refuse
Next week I'll pick it up and my project can continue...

At this moment I'm cleaning and polishing all the parts. I found a very hard used set of shifters that are working well but look like they where used as pedals! The deraillers seems to be taken from the bottom of a swamp and so on...
But I will have my Ariel.

To be continued...

Very nice Grobbebol. Looks minty mint. You're lucky you know? I am very much on it, but this one went under my radar  The 1992 S-Works M2 Pro that I picked up today didn't :p

Looking forward to what you will present us the upcoming months.

This ad was already for a while on Marktplaats, from 30 July, and I was the first one to react! Just luck I think...but that doesn't matter :p

Question: does anyone know where to find the little stickers saying STI on the base of the STI units? Mine are not so nice anymore (curling on the edges and some scratches) and I would like to replace them but I can't find 'm...

Grobbebol,

More serious: If I had seen it, I of course wouldn't have bought it, but notified you 1st ;)

She's in.

Picked her up last Friday and yesterday I took her clothes of...pritty naked!
Found some strange things so far but nothing wrong yet.

I know this specific model was on sale in 1991 and 1992. The man that sold the bike to me told me he bought her in 1996 new from a shop. It has to be old stock with a full LX equiped bike, 7 speed Rapidfires with SLR brakelevers, the polished cantis and most weird: 2 different cranks, one LX and one Deore. Bottombracket was DX. Also the headset is a rare item...Tange baseplate and bearinghouses with a (different black also) Tioga topnut.
The outercables had different cable-ends and different brakecables.

When I bought it the man assures me he never had anything done with the bike or was done to a shop for whatever. And she never saw dirt before, the tires are like new (beside the cracks in the rubber from the age).

I don't mind, mine was full DX so had to be taken in pieces anyway but it's kinda strange to me.

Pics will come soon!

Ok, I have some time to update you all...

Like I told before the parts didn't look that well anymore so I had to do some work. Deraillers and shifters are sort of reborn, brakelevers I polished like I had back in the days. I think most had done that because it's hard to find black ones.

Shifter and grip on a grey Tioga bar...

I rebuilded the wheels because of LX hubs, had to become DX. Rims are hard to find Bontrager Weinman BCR2's, in '92 the lightest rim around! Cassette is used but in almost new condition.

Crankset will be a temporary blank Tioga revolver with Shimano blades. When I have a spare crankset this piece will be powdercoated...

Up front I installed a Suntour PowerHanger. Boost the brake just a bit harder, front only...

Seatpost is a Tioga DL2001 in black with a shim to match the frame, on top a new Selle Turbo...not the best looking but that's the seat I used back than...

So far my update. I planed to install the brakepads and wires soon, chain...and than I have to clean the pedals a bit, they look awfull!
