Hi, I have a spinning recliner chair that i am hoping to modify. Trouble is, i can't seem to work out how to remove the swivel from the base. Not too sure what mechanism is in use, but there seems to be too much friction to indicate bearing use. The point of attachment looks similar to the old shimano sealed bracket tools, also, the inside tube has strange "predator" tri marked grooves set into the end. I have included a couple of photo's, so if anyone can throw any light on how this can be taken apart, i would be extremely grateful ;)

Looks like it's been screwed in then locked by those three nasty grooves - effectively they have bashed the inside.

looks to have been peened over in those 3 places. be a bugger to get it out without much buggeration.

Grind off the outer tips of the three groves and the base will come off.
..Great stuff, i filed the tips off and tadaaa, it's now off :D

What modification are you intending?
...I'm hoping to higher the chair to suit my desk. Partly by adding castors, and also by adding a collar (similar to spacers on a fork steerer i guess)
