Being overtaken on a gentle uphill section by a middle aged German couple on a retro tandem is not good for one’s self esteem..

James, with a tandem you can generate quite some torque. They need twice as much sanitary stops however, so it could very well be you're still faster in the end. Hope this helps.

Great write-up and promising to get my act together for 2013 - my Gios has hung in my garage barely touched since 2010 and it still wears it's coat of white dust with pride (plus a few cobwebs).
