I am nearing completion of a similar frame, just need to find a few hours to finish it. Here are a few pics. It been painted in the original colour and is a good match.

Nice, that's the tone i'm thinking of. I also like the met red version but I'm still toying with a dark met navy blue or even a tungsten grey met. Where did you get your decals from?

I will happily tell you where the decals were bought, privately, but I would not recommend the supplier nor would I use them again. I had to get most of them printed a second or third time which was a pain as them came from overseas. The finished result is fine although, but this is mainly down to the excellent work of the chap who applied the decals and painted the frame.

Apart from the external top tube cable routing, Big Mig's has all the same detailing as mine; especially the fork crown and rear brake bridge ;)

I'm also leaning towards red. Ordered the new decal set last Thus so need to wait for that before I a trip to the paint shop. Will update the picture link with some pics of the intended components. Some nice Campag skewers turned up from foz today to finish my C Record / Omega wheels :D

Re: Pinarello Montello SLX - Updated

After a trip to Argos (the bike specialist, not the branch based catalogue retailer!) in Bristol, I received my Montello back looking better than new. I went for a deep metallic graphite in the end with the period correct white decals with the frame pantographs also picked out in white. All the detailing is exactly the same as it would have left the factory inc the white pin-striping against the chrome and the fork top and rear brake bridge painted with detail - except the decals might not melt off after a few months use!

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions ref paint. I noticed that this colour (or one very similar) was an option in the very late 80s catalogues so I thought I'd try and be faithful to the era, without being a slave to it, and pick something I also personally liked. The couple of pictures I hastily took at the updated link: http://sdrv.ms/Pa5Ab8 don't really do the colour justice, I'll take some better ones when built up.

On the build, I have a C Record groupset to adorn this and I'm fortunate to have both the original aero leavers with down tube shifters and a set of 1st gen Ergos. I'm leaning towards the down tube shifters to keep it more faithful to the period and the other issue is pedals, early clipless or late toe clips! any thoughts?

Looks fantastic. What is the dot near the o on the down tube?

Which decal did you choose for the top of the down tube?

Had to be down tube shifters and pedals with clips.
