Never had a proper front light on any of my bikes before, hence never done offroading at night etc, just the basic commuting.

Decided I need to continue riding during winter so I have just bought this after being impressed by people's reviews.

Magicshine mj-880

sounded ideal, 2000 lumens, tiny size, easy to use and adjust power and only £120.

Can't wait to test them, but here's some pics so far.

Love how they glow when turned off!

And can't believe how compact they are!

Nice!
I've got some of the older ones, and they're a lot more bulky.
Still going strong after 2 years of abuse though :D

Good price that for 2000 lumens, what size battery did they come with?

Just renewed my front light myself, went for a Hope Vision R4 Lightweight kit from Merlin for £153 all in, was in the sale plus an extra 10% off for internet orders ;)
It came with a 2600mAh battery but a mate has sorted me out with another battery the same size that he wasn't using so with both batteries will have a minimum of 2hrs 30 burn time on maximum setting.
Like you said, I can't believe how small the actual LED assy is, the lens containing the four LED's is no bigger than a £2 coin

I'd imagine that would be at least a 6000mAh battery pack for 2000 lumens, at the price you paid the battery is probably worth more than the light assy. The 2600mAh battery packs that came with mine are about £50 for a replacement, bloody ridiculous!

edit: just looked at the MJ-880 online, the battery is a 6600mAh 6 cell pack

Wow, so probably will last over 2hrs despite 2,000 lumen?

Some tests reckon its really 1,600 but either way its more than enough compared with my old £10 front light

yeah, the burn time figures are based on having the light on its maximum setting so if you put it on the second highest setting I bet you could get over 3 hours. A bit of power management while out riding will make the battery last a long time, turning it down on less technical sections for example.

I was using a set of old CatEye halogens that have a massive lead based bottle battery, the size & weight difference is amazing and as for the light emitted, well , its unbelievable :D

Just think how small the whole light unit could be if it didn't need a gert big slab of metal as a heat sink...
