The other irony is that i am three decades older and i really do not accept this fact!

I have Autosol in my garage from my motorbike days. If a part is coated with lacquer, how would i go about re-lacquering? I seem to remember that without lacquer, parts corrode much more quickly unless they are kept clean, dry and polished frequently. I would hate to make a mess of any part at this stage, replacement may be difficult and, yet again, costly.

Thanks again

I wouldnt worry about re lacquering - most bikes dont see the prolonged use these days so many polished parts just need a buff now and again.

Thanks for the Dremel tip but i was going to 'entertain' my 6 year old daughter by teaching her the art of bicycle maintenance and polishing! I know children were employed in Victorian days as chimney sweeps perhaps this is the modern equivalent.

Sounds like an excellent idea, and much more environmentally friendly than wasting electricity on a mechanical polishing device.
