I was bit worried about doing Arran for the same reasons Mark - turns out we stopped often enough for it not be a problem. I think getting off the bike and being able to stretch and walk around makes all the difference.
 
I had only cycled 50 miles before I did the etape's 81, the 81 was easier than the solo 50, you'll be fine mark, besides we can bail early and sit in the pub if nessecary ;)
