I have an ally campagnolo seat post stuck in a steel frame.

I have started with wd40 and the post rotates a bit so it is not totally seised.

Any tips for getting it out?

if it rotates, then get someone else to hold the frame while you twist and pull on the saddle, it should come out OK (but probably a bit scratched)

Any value in warming the seat tube with boiling water?

I think the purpose of heating with water, hot air etc is to use the
expansions and contractions of the different metals to break the bonds
between them - so if the post is not completely seized then there's no
need to apply extra heat.

Good luck,

Johnny

If you have movement it will come out. You could remove the saddle, clamp the end of the seat post in a vice and twist the frame off. Keep squirting the WD40 as well :)

It's out :D

The lower sections have some manky corrosion caused by the ally to steel interface.

Ant tips for cleaning that up?

do not apply heat!

aluminium expands faster than steel, so all you'll do is make it worse.

there's loads of methods including dry ice, caustic soda, amonia, hack saws, but they're all pretty horrible.

edit: well done ^ :)

Ahhhh, actually its often quite successful, the fact that the aluminium expands helps break the corrosive bond so as it cools you start to get a bit of movement.......hopefully :)

I'd use some fine steel wool and more WD40 :)

Oh, and grease it before you put it back
