removing additional brake levers on drop bars

I've always known them as suicide brake levers but I dont know if theres a better way to describe them. You know the extra brake levers that run parallel with the flat section of drop bars on racer bikes.

I would like to remove them as I dont trust them and want to fit some hoods to my brake levers. I've had a look but cant really tell whether its possible to remove them or not. What do you think, can they be removed easily enough and if so how?

Thanks Nathan

Some can some can't, you'd have to show us a picture.

Better of just getting some new levers in my opinion.

I agree with tel. You can get really nice levers with hoods either new or retro for not very much money at all. Just post a wanted ad!

If you are on about the ones built into the normal levers thay cna usually be removed but leave a small boss thats in the way. Chop it of. but easier and dead cheap to get some other levers. Often found on bikes in skips or the tip or buy new!

Thanks chaps I'll look out for some other levers. Saft thing is I let a pair of Shimano levers go 2 weeks ago.
