Install it, then go to tools/startup & it might be in there, if so just delete it & reboot
give ccleaner a try, gets rid of quite a bit of rubbish.
Malware, and virus was one of the reasons I switched to Linux at home instead of windows.

Thats crazy to consider giving her the sack for something so minor! Malware is everywhere, 90% of pc/laptops have it on in some form, browser hijacks can be a pain but its hardly her fault. maybe your business equipment should be better protected or restricted to 'safe' websites.
Which ever anti malware (malwarebytes and spybot are good) program you use run the scan in safe mode if you can. Once the program is gone you may also need to make some changes to the browser.
You can remove any unwanted settings from firefox via the config.
Just type 'about:config' in to the address bar and you will get access to the config. look for any trace of the hijack and remove it.
