looking for clever hands

Hi.

I'm after a machinist who can make me a lock ring for a crank set.

Is there anyone in the retrobike community who can do this sort of thing?

Otherwise I guess I'll just weld it?

(yep ... I've contacted RaceFace and they don't have any more of these)

There is bound to be a number of people on the forum who can make a lock ring like that, but I would also suggest finding any local model engineers, the kinds of people who make model steam engines and the like.

There are a few forums covering the subject, and some of the stuff those guys can make is incredible. You are also more likely to find someone a little closer to home.

Are you mad? don't use a model railway engineer! a model motor boat outboard engineer, specialising in the accurate scale reproduction of late model 4 stroke Honda outboard engines would be much better!

Any local engineers/machine shop would be able to make you one. Incredible some of there work undoubtedly is, there's no need to tie it down to hunting a model railway fanatic, there isn't a great amount of detail to it.

My money is on the lockring being the same 24tpi thread as a bottom bracket / freewheel. Try any old fashioned BB lockring first...

Undo all the bolts.Turn it around to put the crack in a non stress area :?
Personally,i cant see it causing any problems unless the crack is in the arm itself under the lockring :?
Have you checked for that?

i can make you a nice shiney stainless one if you can wait just over a month for me to get back from Venezuela i can even make it so you use a spanner instead of the horrid pin holes

Do you see any problem with using a stainless lock ring on an aluminium spider?
