interesting build, I was hoping for a 9/10 speed cassette at the back and not the SS but that would probably pop you over the 8kg marker but in my opinion would make it a nicer bike and better in the mud

Any thoughts in some light suspension forks, SIDS?

I tried to combine a couple of different things on this:

My first WW
My first SS

so I'll only be adding gears sometime in the distant future...

Found a 9sp casette on ebay the other day, that was 87g, so never say never... ;) possibly a 1x9 set up.

Managed to get a free chain yesterday - 250g full length, so hoping around 230g with a few links removed. Also got some pace RC31's that are lighter than these ones currently fitted.

Sus-forks, hmm I can take or leave them for this build, it's only for pootling round my local woods/forests.

I hope your sticking the other chainring bolts back in ;)

Ha missed that... extreme WW saving, extremely dangerous!

The pace forks sound like a better idea and get that 9spd cassette, run a 1x9 with XTR shifter to keep it light

So today was a change of forks, a lightweight chain, and a bodged DCD device for tension......

All that's left is about 500g of V-brakes and cables (over-estimate) and I'm looking at circa 7.6kgs all-in. And I'm waaaay under budget of £500.

Pretty confident that I could 1x9 it and just keep it under the 8kgs. But for the time being it'll remain SS, and I'm going to (very) slowly keep my eyes out for lighter weight components..

That's pretty seriously light. To say the least. I think the lowest you are allowed to go to in road racing is about 6.4Kg.

EDIT Just checked, it's 6.8Kg.
