hi chaps
thanks for the replys sorry i wont be makeing anymore in the short term it takes me about 4 hours just to make the housing. yes the cooling fins are needed i run them near to maximum amps so they do get quite hot in still air.

that cree xm-l wont even be 900 lumens as they only run at 2.4 amps my twin xm-l running at 2.8 amps and only puts out 1700 lumens

The China bike lights someone set a craze for buying on here, mine are still going strong and often migrate away from the bike to be used for other things like camping.

But it it's lumens you want try this ;

You could burn your way through the terrain

My mates xml bike light broke in less than 10 hours use. There is a coil of wire on a ferrite core inside and its weight is unsupported. Its held only by the two ends where they are soldered to the board and these eventually broke off leaving it rattling around inside. I soldered it back on but the light no longer worked. Depending on the type of use and the orientation of the board within the light its just a matter of time. Wouldnt hurt to take yours apart and glue that coil to the board. Thats what I did. Be very carefull with the reflector though. Read my post in this thread to see why:

Seems to be a problem with most of the magic shine clones poor electrics and battery waterproofing best thing to do is rebuild it before you use it.

I have 3 sets of magic shine and after 3 years of use , including 24h racing , weekly night ride and everyday commuting , 2 batteries have died , thin piece of metal rusted away , and one light unit switch needs to be pressed a few times to change settings .

Can't fault them for the price and will order some more next month .

But those lights of yours are brilliant .

3 sets, plus you are going to order some more. You can get a Hope R4 for £170 if you shop around. I have one and they are very nice indeed.

They look excellent.Very well done to you :D

Rechargeable batteries don't last forever anyway. If you open up the battery pack, you'll find inside 4 standard size 3.7v li-ion batteries, something like this:

http://www.batteriesplus.co.uk/acatalog/Lithium_Ion__Li-Ion___3.7V_Batteries.html

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksid=p3872.m570.l1313&_nkw=Li-ion+Rechargeable+Battery&_sacat=0

If you're handy with a soldering iron and get hold of some heat shrink tube, you can make you're own battery packs for a fraction of what the bike light people sell them for. You could probably repair the switch and the bit that's rusted as well.

Incidentally, my Magicshine lights came with a plastic battery case that looks like it could be opened and the batteries replaced if and when I need to: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Magicshin...ing_LightsLanternsTorches&hash=item336f4e9b38
