ok, have built up a rather nice 1984 -ish Motobecane Jubilee sport

I am using some cack Campag Xenon mechs but want something nicer to go with the 9 spd hubs & ergo levers.

I have plenty of experience with mixing old shimano with new - compatability exists with mechs as far back as 1988 - but, have no idea what campag i could mix.

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

ta.

The simple rule is don't mix anything from before 2001 with anything after for rear shifting.

It is however possible to modernise shifters from pre-2001 with a new ratchet and cam kit - Mercian cycles do the parts. They are around 30 quid, but it's quite fiddly, so they also do a rebuild service.

Front mechs don't index (unless you have 2007 or after) so that's easy.

Pre 2001 rear mechs are hard to get hold of these days and seem to go for silly money on eBay.

cool, I've been mixing stuff up for years - best result was a 1988 deore mech with 2006 9 spd :p

worked without fuss.

now back to reading more on 'shimergo'

;)

looking at the prices of old mechs and in the spirit of this build (built out of stuff found at the tip - even the carbon forks!) - I'll keep to the Xenons, unless something exiting comes up.....
