Torn shoulder ligaments - Anyone else done this?

I severed both thumb extensor tendons a couple of weeks ago, now repaired and immobilised, it hasn't hurt at all but it's going to take plenty of time to be back to normal. So yes, 12 weeks + for you i'm afraid. I dislocated my shoulder years ago, did a lot of damage and that took years to get back to anywhere near normal, taking off a sweaty t shirt required a new technique as i had no push up strength, and i still lack a bit of movement range on that side.

All the best, and a gory pic for you!

Crashed and ripped my humerus right out of the socket trying to ride my bicycle home well lit and carrying a pitcher of beer from a friend's at 3am many years ago. They put a screw in it and I was racing MX a month later. I was a crazy bastard back then though.........well, more so than now.

Managed to save the beer in the crash, somehow. Godsend, seeing as it took an hour for the ambulance to arrive. Doc got called in to the hospital at 10 am from coaching a soccer game on a holiday Monday. He woke me up on the gurney and told me I needed surgery. I said ok, closed my eyes, and went back to sleep. He was not impressed.

I also have ruptured my AC about 7 years ago (a car turned in front of me and my right shoulder hit and shattered the passenger window). I had my shoulder strapped and taped up for 3 months plus had 3 months of physio, it was about 6 months until I got back on my bike. Thankfully I was on my way to work so all costs were covered by workers compensation.

My shoulder is now about 5mm out from what it was originally. This meant I had to retrain my brain to where my hand was in time and space. For months if I went to pick up a cup of coffee, unless I really concentrated I would hit the side of the cup, the same thing for picking up a pen. I would sort of fumble at it.

My shoulder has never felt as strong as it was and occasionally aches, but thankfully I have not needed surgery. One bonus is I live in a warm climate because when I go to somewhere cold my shoulder does seem to ache and feels a bit ‘tighter’.

Just got back from seeing the specialist. He's told me to try and use my arm normally, and given me some basic exercises to do. I have been signed off work for four weeks and have to go back and see him in September, unless they decide to operate.

I have a type 3 clavicle separation. Very common with rugby payers apparently.

Whatever it's called, it's blummin uncomfortable with my clavicle sticking up inside my shoulder

I popped my shoulder out playing football last October.
Fell awkwardly on it, and it kind of popped out and back in during the same fall.
I had physio on it for about 3 months (during which time it kept popping back out again).
I started gentle riding about 4 months after the initial injury, and it's been ok.
Started giving me grief the last few days though actually....must be popping out in sympathy

Hope it gets better soon

Thanks, me too.

I've just spoken to my boss, and he's being pretty good about it.

I'll just have to do as the doctors say, and hope for a quick recovery.

I had a type 3 AC separation a few years ago and had the op very soon after the accident, surgeon was the same one who did Steve Peat a few years before, I was immobile for two weeks after the op and back at work just after 8 weeks and my job is quite considerably physical, the following couple of years I noticed when the temp first dropped and would have to strap my shoulder up f bit until it got used to it but I have been fine for a long time strength-wise although I may have lost some of the movement but that could just be as I get older.

There's a lot of discussion on MTBR if you want to read it but different people heal quicker than others so don't get too despondent if your prognosis isn't the same.

UPDATE- Four Weeks On.

After seeing the consultant for the first time, I was signed off work for four weeks and told to use my arm as normally as I could, which I did.

The discomfort got less and less and the strength got better day on day, aided by 40 to 60 minutes on the turbo every other day.

On Monday I went back to hospital and was given the OK to; return to work, ride my horse and ride my bike... EXCELLENT.

I have to see a shoulder specialist on Friday, but in the mean time I took the Bigfoot out for a quick 10k road blast and the shoulder was fine... the lungs are a different matter

I still have a few pangs of pain / discomfort and the consultant said I should be sensible for another six weeks or so, but apart from a bump on my shoulder, all is once again well with the world.
