Bigmicks right, check out S-M's build thread for details on the issues taking other swingarms/ chain/seat stays from other FSR models!
you'll have all sorts of things that wont be compatible
best to get your self an adapter or use rim brake on the rear

Cheers mate. I will have to check that out, sounds interesting. Yeh think i will stay with the adaptor until i start upgrading parts then i will weld some mounts on(have to be careful though because they will be attached to a large weld on the seatstay!) Got the whole thing planned out in my head now so i will start cracking on.
i may be wrong but, i think an 8speed cassette with a 9 speed chain should not be a problem.
if it was a 9 speed cassette with an 8 speed chain it may have issues.
8 speed chains are wider than 9 speed chains. i think i've read this on this forum somewhere regarding chain compatibility on rear cassettes.

EDIT: just re-read your post and think you are talking about a 9spd rear mech with 8speed chain/cassette and shifter. if thats the case, ignore my post!
