I know bars are available in both 25.4 and 31.8 mm clamp diameters, but are the ends of all MTB bars still 22.2mm, or has another standard been introduced? I just need to confirm before I go ahead and order various parts!

thanks, Andy

I've just swapped from some old azonic world force risers (25.4mm clamp) from 1999 to some brand new answer pro tapers (31.8mm clamp) and the diameter of the bars for shifters, brake levers and grips is still the same (I'm guessing that's the 22mm you refer to?

yes it is the portion that is clamped that comes in 2 different size

note that you can get shims to fit the smaller dia bar to stem.

And I have a stem for a 25.0 bar. 25.4 just doesn't fit in there.
Then again, it was a prototype stem, so probably an error.

But yeah, all handlebars should have a 22.2mm diameter once you reach the area where grips, levers etc are mounted.

yep, it's the grip area I was asking about... there are loads of clamp diameters, especially with road stuff.
