Am new to this forum, but have been lurking trying to understand which parts to buy to put together a 30 yr old steel racer.
Am I okay to buy separate components for the drivetrain rather than matching from a single groupset? I think the answer is yes for a casual weekend cyclist (based on my own experiences in the 80s of riding on a mixture of campag, shimano and cheapest possible from Halfords!) but I welcome any opinions.
I'd love to get a full groupset, but my budget will only stretch to cheap used parts... Next best is to get everything from one manufacturer, but it's still spans more than 1 groupset.
Am really having trouble finding/identifying a campag rear-mech suitable for a 5 speed freewheel. Doesn't need to be the lightest or best - just want the campag brand at the lowest price. I keep seeing Super Record rear mechs approaching £100, but that's way beyond my budget. Ugh, I'm so cheap!
