XTR 950 FD in 31,8

can I use any of the available Shimano shims from 31,8 to 28,6 mm, or,...?

total weight till now 8177 gr

Most shims are 34.9 to 31.8 or 34.9 to 28.6, think you will struggle to find one that is 31.8 to 28.6, although I think there was an XTR m960 shim of that size.

Also, in case you didn't already know XTR m950 is designed for 8 speed.

Should be getting a Kilauea frame later this week & will be similar build but with rigid forks & XT m770 groupset :)

I was in the same boat with my cindercone build a few weeks back, couldn't get a 28.6 tp m750 mech so I made a shim to fit my 31.8 version.

I've since found the correct size mech, so this shim is spare?
I'm still struggling to find a carbon 27.0 seatpost that's not a kings ransom though :(

good idea with the roadie mechs, will check out :)

yes, I know that the 950 series had been designed for 8 speed use, but the cage is wide enough to be capeable of 9 speed usage, too.

I've run 8 speed FMs on 9 speed but IIRC 9 speed FMs are a touch wider??

Any progress on this build??? Just purchased my self an Explosif and want to see this done for ideas and weight... looks good so far

I think its a quite good compromise in between weight and lifetime

current weight of the build is 8409 gr. with still some parts more to come:

-crank
-chainrings
-chain
-chainringbolts
-BB bolts
-pedals
-liners & cables

hope to achieve arround 10,8 kg
