rear shock question for 1998 Marin Mount Vision

Any idea the i2i length of the rear shock (Fox Vanilla R) without taking it the bike apart?

Pretty sure its 165mm... I had a 1997 full suss Marin that was 165mm and i 1998 I don't think they changed the frame design...

If your looking for a replacement I found a good alternative to Fox or Rockshox was XFusion...I had one of theirs (Equivilent to Fox Rp23) on my Marin think it was the o2 model. Worked brilliantly with the frame and you can pick them up for a good price think mine was £79.99 on ebay...good shock tho...

There was a bit of play where the shock was attached to the swing arm, so I've took it into my local bike shop to have a look....

Just sounds like the bushes... If the shock still works ok you should be able to get some new bushes for around a tenner from your LBS or ebay!
